The inspiration
When I spotted the Purl Soho baby blanket "Lines and Squares" online, I immediately fell in love with it. It's a basic and timeless pattern, but it boasts beautiful, simple, and elegant finishes. The construction includes a hem all around, giving it a nice weight, straight edges, and sharp corners. The blanket also features a grid pattern created by knitting a contrasting row horizontally and adding a net instead of dropping a stitch vertically.

From a baby blanket to a full-sized throw
Upon seeing this pattern, I thought it would be perfect as an extra blanket on a bed or as a throw on the sofa. Therefore, I needed to adapt its dimensions from a baby-sized blanket to an adult-sized one.
My goal was to have a finished size of approximately 140x200 cm/55x78 inches, suitable for a standard-sized bed. This is about 4.5 times the size of the original pattern (74x84 cm/29x33 inches), so I multiplied the required yardage of the main color by this factor. I only ordered one skein of yarn for the contrasting lines.
I ended up knitting 6 squares in width instead of the 3 originally planned in the initial pattern and 7 in height.
The result
I knitted this final pattern using a blend of wool and alpaca to ensure that it would be warm and cozy for chilly evenings.
I must admit that it turned out beautifully because it's very comfortable and snug for watching a movie in the evening. Its large dimensions allow you to wrap yourself up in it without your feet sticking out, and it's even spacious enough for two people!
Its graphic pattern adds a lovely touch when folded on a sofa or draped over a bed.
In short, I highly recommend it, especially since it knits up very quickly!
